Wikid

Now I just need to think up the perfect definition for my new word…

Anyway, in other news, the wiki has had over 20,000 page loads. That’s super cool! Also, things are moving along for my library to do it’s 2.0 program. I’ll be taking things from the wiki and reformatting them into a blog. We’ll see how that goes…

I’ve also done some fiddling with geni, an online genealogy tool for building family trees. It’s a lot of fun. Pros: You can network with your family members – you can give them access to the tree, and they can add or edit where they see fit. That can also be a con, I suppose. It’s also very easy to use.

Cons: There does not appear to be a way to import genealogy information from other programs. So if you’ve got 50,000 names in your current program, you’re looking at re-typing them all in one at a time.

So, for people just starting genealogy, or wanting a fun project, geni might be a good fit, but serious genealogists might have a different opinion about its functionality, compared with some of the programs you can get.

On the other hand, it’s free.
